Ryanair Wheelchair Policy and Special Assistance Guide

Flying With Your Wheelchair on Ryanair

When booking your flight with Ryanair, make sure to declare that you are travelling with a wheelchair or other mobility device. This will prompt Ryanair to send you an email requesting details of your wheelchair including dimensions, battery type (if applicable), and weight. You can also fill out the Electric Mobility Device Loading Form by following this link, and submitting it directly to RyanAir through their website:

Due to space constraints, Ryanair limits the number of wheelchairs they can transport to two per flight, so it is best to reserve space for your wheelchair as early as possible.

Wheelchair Size Limits on Ryanair

Your wheelchair must not exceed 81cm by 119 cm by 119 cm (32” by 47” by 47”), and must not exceed 150 kg (330lbs) without prior authorization. Without this authorization, if your wheelchair exceeds this weight limit, it will be denied transport.

Battery Operated Mobility Aids on Ryanair

Ryanair accepts only dry or gel-cell and lithium ion batteries. Batteries must be isolated and have the terminals protected or recessed to prevent accidental activation or short circuiting. If your wheelchair or scooter requires a key, you will be required to remove it and keep it with you while travelling. A wheelchair powered by a single lithium-ion battery must not exceed 300 watts; devices using two batteries must not exceed 160 watts each.

If your device uses lithium-ion batteries, you are permitted to carry up to two spare batteries with you, provided they are transported as carry-on baggage. Spare batteries must be packaged to prevent short circuiting or accidental activation.

Lost or Damaged Wheelchairs on Ryanair

Ryanair recommends that you purchase travel insurance for your wheelchair, but will assume liability for up to approximately 1600 euro in case of loss or damage.

Requesting Airport Wheelchair Assistance with Ryanair

It is recommended to request wheelchair assistance when making your initial booking with Ryanair.  If you have not done so, you can add a wheelchair assistance request to your booking online up to 48 hours before your scheduled flight departure. Afterward, you may still be able to request assistance via the Special Assistance phone line, up to 12 hours before your flight, but the airline cannot guarantee that assistance will be available.

When booking your wheelchair assistance, you can select from various options, depending on the level of assistance required.  The options are as follows:

1. Assistance through the airport to the boarding gate - select option WCHR

2. Assistance through the airport and lift on/off to/from the aircraft seat - select option WCHC

3. PAssistance through the airport and up/down the aircraft steps - select option WCHS
