Personal belongings such as briefcases and portable computers are considered to be hand luggage which you can take onboard. This also applies to crutches and strollers; however these will have to be checked in, labelled and stowed in the hold if there is not enough space on board.

HAND BAGGAGE DIMENSIONS
You are allowed to carry only 1 piece of hand luggage onboard which must not exceed 8 kgs of weight and the following dimensions (including handles, side pockets and wheels):

PLEASE NOTE: in order to speed up boarding procedures, we invite you to verify size and weight of your hand baggage with one of the Alitalia representatives or by using one the bag gauges located near the Alitalia check-in desks before proceeding to the boarding gate.
Passengers who refuse or fail to carry out hand baggage check procedures before reaching the boarding gate, may be refused boarding.
DANGEROUS ARTICLES
For security reasons, you are not allowed to board with potentially dangerous articles such as scissors, cutters, Swiss army-type knives or tools and instruments for agricultural, scientific, sporting or industrial use and the like, nor can you board with any type of imitation or toy firearm.
Furthermore, it is forbidden to take cigarette-lighters on board all flights from Italy to the United States.

BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE FOR TICKETS FROM/TO NORTHERN AMERICA (USA/MEXICO) ISSUED WITHIN JANUARY 23, 2012:
CHILDREN ALLOWANCE
Children aged 2-11 years: same allowance of adult passenger.
Infant aged 0-23 months: 1 piece with a maximum weight not exceeding 10 Kgs.
For children up to 11 year (before the 12th birthday) there is a free transportation of one stroller, applying on all destinations and booking classes.
ALLOWANCE FOR AIR ONE FLIGHTS SOLD BY ALITALIA
Adults and children (2-11 years):For tickets issued starting October 17, 2011, for travel beginning November 1, 2011, tickets booked in Y/B/M are allowed 2 pieces with a maximum weight not exceeding 20 Kgs. Tickets issued in W/L/H/K/V/T/N/S/Q/X/R are allowed 1 piece with a maximum weight not exceeding 20 Kgs.
Tickets issued prior to October 17, 2011. Adults and children (2-11 years): 1 piece with a maximum weight not exceeding 20 Kgs.
BENEFITS FOR EXCLUSIVE CLUB MEMBERS
Ulisse, Freccia Alata and Freccia Alata Plus members are entitled to an additional free bag when traveling on Alitalia, Air France, KLM and Delta operated flights. The maximum weight of the free bag may not exceed 23Kgs for tickets issued in Classica - Economy Class and Classica Plus - Premium Economy Class, and 32Kgs for tickets issued in Ottima - Business Class and Magnifica - Business Class.

Excess baggage in number of pieces, sizes and weight can be added up: for example, if in addition to the two pieces allowed, there is a third piece which is also over foreseen weight, total cost of excess baggage charged will be 200+100 euros or USD.
