Air Transat is a Canadian airline operating scheduled and charter flights, serving 60 destinations in 25 countries. During the summer season its main destinations are Europe and in the winter season the Caribbean, Mexico, USA and Central America.
Air Transat typically allowed at least one free checked bag for all of its passengers, with weight allowances varying by destination, and whether or not you are flying on a cruise vacation package. However, they have recently introduced an "Eco Budget" fare class with no free checked baggage allowance.
Air Transat is quite friendly in terms of sports equipment, typically allowing an additional piece of sports equipment to be checked in free of charge, in addition to you standard checked baggage allowance on flights to South destinations, as well as to Europe and the Middle East. Be sure to note that this applies only to some items of sports equipment, others will be charged a fee of up to $100.

×The Air Transat Free Checked Baggage Allowance is dependent on your destination. Please note that Air Transat's baggage fees have increased.
If planning ahead, you can save up to 25% on Air Transat baggage fees by pre-purchasing your luggage allowance at least 24 hours before departure. This amount is seen as the lower end of the baggage fee rates shown below. If paying for your baggage within 24 hours of your flight (whether online or at the airport), the higher of the fees will apply.

Air Transat has increased it's overweight, oversize, and excess baggage fees for 2023, with a simplified structure with the same fees for all flights.
Air Transat Excess Baggage Fee 2023
All excess bags (3rd bag or more) will now cost $225 each.
Air Transat Overweight Baggage Fee 2023
If your bag weight exceeds the limit of 23kg (50 lbs), you will now be charged a $100 Overweight Baggage Fee. No bag may weigh more than 32 kg (70 lbs), otherwise it must fly as cargo.
Air Transat Oversize Baggage Fee 2023
If your bag is larger than 158 linear cm (Length + Width + Height), up to a maximum of 292 cm total, a $100 Oversized Baggage Fee will be charged. Bags larger than 292cm (L+W+H) will not be accepted.
In case that a bag is both oversize and overweight, both fees will apply.
Note: the $100 fee will be charged as $100 USD / $100 CAD / 80 EUR / 65 GBP, depending on the point of origin of the flight.
Sporting Equipment
In 2023, Air Transat no longer offers a free additional sporting equipment allowance, and you will have to pay to transport your sports equipment. You MUST pre-register your sports equipment ahead of time (at least 72 hours / 3 days before your departure) to ensure there is enough space on the aircraft, otherwise it may not be accepted for transport.
Please note that new sports equipment fees have been recently implemented.
For passengers who booked a package, charges may apply for the land transfer of sporting equipment to hotels at some destinations.
Baby And Child Equipment
Infants travelling on an adult's lap do not have a baggage allowance; however, 1 stroller and 1 car seat per child/infant is accepted free of charge. No substitutions permitted. Additional items (such as a playpen, booster seat, additional car seat, etc.) exceeding your free checked baggage allowance (weight, size and/or number of pieces permitted) will be subject to excess baggage charges.
