Babies Under 2 Fly Free on Ryanair

Babies and Infants do NOT Fly Free on Ryanair

Unlike many other airlines that allow young babies and infants under 2 years of age to fly for free on a parent's lap, Ryanair charges a fee of 25 EUR / GBP for a baby to fly on a parent's lap. You will have to add your baby or infant to your reservation either while making your booking or my modifying your reservation on the My Booking section of the Ryanair flight.  The Infant Fee remains 25 EUR / GBP whether adding an infant to your reservation while making your original booking or later on.

When flying with an infant on your lap, you will have to sit in a window seat, as these are the seats on Ryanair planes that have 2 oxygen masks available in case of emergency. [AMZ asins='B00TSL2UJ6,B089NR6B41,B01DD0V4QC,B09NCDP4SM']

Maximum 1 Infant on Lap per Adult

A maximum of 1 infant on a lap is allowed per adult passenger on Ryanair flights.  If you are flying with more than 1 infant that is less than 2 years old, you will have to purchase an individual seat for the second child, and they will have to fly in their own seat.  You can bring a certified baby car seat into the cabin for that infant to fly in.  Car seats are cannot be used in flight for infants that are flying on a parent's lap, but they will be accepted to be taken as a piece of luggage free of charge.

Age Limit to Fly on a Parent's Lap on Ryanair

All infants must be least 8 days old in order to be allowed to fly on a Ryanair flight.  In order to fly as an infant on an adult's lap, your baby must be less than 2 years old. If your baby has their 2nd birthday while away on your trip, they will need to fly in their own seat with a full-fare adult ticket for the return portion of your trip.

Purchasing an Individual Seat for an Infant on Ryanair Flights

You may choose to purchase a standard adult ticket for your infant to fly on Ryanair.  This will allow you to bring a government-certified baby car seat into the cabin for your baby to fly in, which is the safest way for a baby to fly. With the low price of tickets on many Ryanair flights, it may sometimes even be cheaper for your infant to fly in their own seat rather than on your lap paying the Infant on Lap fee.

When flying with a child in their own seat, you will be allowed to select your seats together free of charge so that you can be seated as a family.  Ryanair will allow you to select seats free of charge for up to 4 children on a single reservation to be seated togethr with the adult that is flying, as long as you pay to select a seat for the parent.  The adult's seat selection fee is approximately 4-6 EUR / GBP per flight.

Using a Baby Car Seat on Ryanair Flights

If you have purchased an individual seat for your child to fly in, you may bring a government-certified car seat into the cabin for your child to fly in.  Ryanair only accepts forward-facing car seats that use a 5-point harness, and it must be approved and labeled for use in an airplane.  The labels on the car seat must say either:

US – “Certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft”

Europe –   European Standard Mark.

Your baby's car seat must be no wider than 17 inches / 43 cm in order to be able to fit into the airplane seats on Ryanair flights.
