Etihad Airways is a major international airline connecting passengers to the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America. It is based out of the United Arab Emirates.
Etihad Airways is a pretty generous airline in terms of regular free checked baggage allowances for all passengers (except if you purchase a Hand Baggage Only fare), but exceeding your weight allowance or bringing extra bags can get VERY expensive.
Etihad Airways can be a great airline for flying with sports equipment, as it is accepted free of charge in place of your regular checked baggage, but be careful not to exceed your free checked baggage allowance, as Etihads expensive excess/overweight fees will be charged.

×Etihad Airways operates on a "weight concept" baggage system, meaning that there is no limit to number of checked bags allowed, as long as the total combined weight of all your suitcases does not exceed the specified weight limit for your ticket. An exception applies for flights to/from Canada and the USA, for which a "piece concept" applies, meaning there is a specified number of suitcases allowed, with a maximum weight allowance for each suitcase.
Hand Baggage Only Fares on Etihad Airways
Etihad Airways sells "Hand Baggage Only" fares on some routes - if you have purchased a "Hand Baggage Only" fare, you are not entitled to any free checked baggage allowance. You may still purchase a checked baggage allowance by adding it to your reservation online up to 4 hours before your flight, or at the airport. Remember that it is cheaper to add extra bags to your reservation online than at the airport.
