Flying with a Wedding Dress on Spirit Airlines

Bringing a Wedding Dress into the Cabin on Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines does not make any special allowances for bringing a wedding dress onto the plane, but they will accept your dress into the cabin as your standard piece of carry-on baggage as long as it fits within the standard carry-on size dimensions (22 x 18 x 10 inches). It is best to pack your wedding dress carefully into this carry-on suitcase, along with your shoes and jewellery, and place it into the overhead bins.

Another option is to bring your dress in a tri-fold travel garment bag that may be gently rolled up or folded into the carry-on size dimensions to be placed into the overhead bins, or unrolled and layed flat on top of other suitcases in the overhead lockers.  Spirit Airlines does NOT have a locker/closet space to hang your garment bag with your wedding dress. Keep in mind that your ticket usually does not include a standard carry-on suitcase (in this case, your wedding dress) - you will have to pay extra to be allowed to bring a carry-on suitcase (the price varies by origin/destination, but expect to pay around $40 if pre-purchased while making your reservation, and about $65 if paying at the airport).

We do NOT recommend packing your wedding dress into your regular checked baggage suitcase - the last thing you want is to risk your bag getting lost on the way to your wedding destination.  Pack your dress, shoes, jewellery, and other wedding essentials into your carry-on bag, and keep it with you to make sure it doesn't get lost in transit.

Packing a Clothes Steamer on Spirit Airlines

Your wedding dress is bound to arrive wrinkled after being packed into your carry-on suitcase, but the good news is you can pack a portable travel hand-held steamer with you to get out the wrinkles from your wedding dress before your big day.

You can pack your steamer either into your carry-on bag, and it can be brought through security and onto the plane as long as there is no liquid left in it (TSA regulations).  You can also simply bag it into your regular suitcase.

Flying with a Bridesmaid Dress on Spirit Airlines

Your bridesmaid dress does not get any special allowances on Spirit Airlines - you can pack it either into your regular suitcase or bring it in your carry-on suitcase.  We recommend always packing your dress and shoes into your carry-on cabin bag suitcase, so as not to risk your dress getting lost in transit before the wedding.  You will have to pay extra for bringing a carry-on bag with Spirit Airlines (expect to pay $40 for a carry-on suitcase when making your reservation, or around $65  if you have choose to pay for your carry on suitcase at the airport).  The size of the carry-on bag is limited to 22 x 18 x 10 inches.

You can also choose to bring your bridesmaid dress in a garment bag, as long as it can be rolled up/folded to fit into the standard carry on bag dimensions.  Either roll it up and place it into the overhead bin, or unroll and lay it flat on top of other suitcases that are already in the locker.
