Flying with Babies and Kids on Spirit Airlines

Minimum Age to Fly on Spirit Airlines

Young babies and infants must be a minimum of 7 days old to fly on Spirit Airlines.  Babies and infants younger than 2 years old may fly free of charge on a parent's lap (without their own seat).  Children older than 2 years old must fly in their own assigned seat, meaning you will have to purchase a ticket for them.  You may be asked to show proof of age when flying with a baby on Spirit Airlines.

Babies and Infants Under 2 Fly Free on Spirit Airlines

Young babies and infants less than 2 years old may fly free of charge on Spirit Airlines when sitting on a parent's lap.  This is known as an Infant in Lap.  Only 1 Infant in Lap is allowed per child. [AMZ asins='B00RXW8CVC,B000RRD7UG,B07MZFD26C,B00TSL2UJ6']

You must inform Spirit Airlines ahead of time that you will be flying with an Infant in Lap.

Some fees and taxes may apply when flying with an Infant in Lap on international flights.

When flying with an Infant in Lap, your baby will not have their own assigned seat, and will have to stay on your lap for the duration of your flight.  They will not be able to use a car seat during the flight, because they will not have a seat to install it in. If you prefer that your baby fly in an FAA-approved car seat, you will have to purchase a separate ticket for your baby, and bring an FAA-approved car seat with you.

Purchasing a Seat for a Child on Spirit Airlines

All children 2 years old or more must fly in their own assigned seat on Spirit Airlines, meaning that you must purchase a ticket for them at the regular adult fare.  Although not required for young babies and infants younger than 2 years old (they may fly on a parent's lap as an Infant in Arms / Infant in Lap), you may also purchase a seat for an infant if you wish they fly in a car seat.

When a child is flying in their own assigned seat, you may choose to bring into the cabin an FAA-approved child car seat to be used during the flight.  The car seat must meet all FAA safety certifications and be approved for use in an aircraft, meeting the correct labeling requirements. The label on the car seat must read "This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft" - Spirit Airlines's flight attendants will be looking for this label before allowing the car seat to be used on board the aircraft.

Family Seating on Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines does not offer family seating on its airplanes.  The only way to guarantee that your family sits together on the plane is to pay to select your seats when making your booking.
