Spirit Airlines Firearms Policy 2023: Flying with Guns, Firearms, and Ammo Guide
Firearms Accepted on DOMESTIC Flights on Spirit Airlines Only
Spirit Airlines only accepts guns on Domestic flights. Firearms are not accepted on any Spirit Airlines International flight.
Firearms Accepted in Checked Baggage Only on Spirit Airlines
Guests bringing a firearm on Spirit must be 18 years of age or older. Guns and Firearms are accepted only as Checked Baggage, and never in your carry-on and can not be brought on board the aircraft or through the security checkpoint.

Checking-In Your Firearm for Travel on Spirit Airlines
Your firearm must be completely Unloaded and packed in a Locked, Hard-Sided Case. You will have to declare your firearm(s) to a Spirit Airlines representative at the check-in desk.
You will have to sign a Firearms Declaration tag declaring that your firearm is unloaded. A separate tag must be signed for every firearm.
After declaring your firearm to the check-in agent, a TSA Agent will have to inspect your firearm and case to confirm it is unloaded before sending your case on its way to the belly of the aircraft.
Packing Ammunition on Spirit Airlines
A small amount (up to 11 lbs / 5 kg) of small-arms ammunition for personal use is accepted per passenger on Spirit Airlines.
Your ammunition must be packed either in its original packaging container, or in a rigid box specifically designed for carrying small amounts of ammunition. Loose ammunition is NEVER accepted in your luggage.
Ammunition clips and magazines must also be securely boxed/packed.
Properly packed ammunition may be placed either in the same hard-sided container as your firearm, or locked and packed in a separate piece of checked baggage.
Firearms Count Toward Spirit Airlines Baggage Allowance
Your firearm will count toward your Spirit Airlines Checked Baggage allowance, and all standard Checked, Overweight, Excess, and Oversize baggage fees that may apply will be charged.
