Flying with a Wedding Dress on Delta Airlines

Bringing a Wedding Dress into the Cabin on Delta Airlines

Delta Airlines allows you to bring a garment bag in place of a standard regular carry-on suitcase.  You can choose to bring your wedding dress either packed professionally into a carry on suitcase (max size 22 x 14 x 9 inches), or into a soft-sided travel garment bag.

If flying with your dress in a garment bag, you can ask the flight attendant when boarding to hang your dress in a coat closet near the front of the plane.  This jacket closet is usually reserved for First Class passengers, but most flight attendants will be helpful to a bride to be and willing to accept to hang your dress in the closet.  Keep in mind that these closets are not very tall, it is best if your garment bag can be folded (preferably tri-fold) to shorten the length of the garment bag so that it fits.  [AMZ asins='B07N7KY1Q8,B07V91437Y,B08LMYP6T8,B09TRCCPCB']

Your other option is to place the garment bag with the wedding dress layed out flat in the overhead locker, placed on top of other carry on suitcases.  Do not lay out your dress flat in the overhead locker as the first item - it will get crushed and damaged by other passengers carelessly placing their suitcases on top of your dress.

Do not pack your dress into a standard suitcase - you do not want to risk your wedding dress getting lost in transit before your wedding.  It is always best to take it into the cabin with you, along with shoes, jewellery, and other wedding day essentials that you should not pack into a checked bag.

Bringing a Fabric Steamer on Delta Airlines

Your dress will be wrinkled once you arrive at your destination - it is recommended to pack a fabric steamer to get out the wrinkles once you arrive.  When flying on Delta, a fabric steamer can be packed either in your carry-on bag (as long as there is no liquid, to bring it through security) or into your regular checked luggage.

Flying with a Bridesmaid Dress on Delta Airlines

It is best to pack your bring your bridesmaid dress into the cabin with you when flying on Delta Airlines - you can pack it either into a standard carry-on suitcase (max size 22 x 14 x 9 inches) or a garment bag, and it will count as your carry-on item.  You can ask the flight attendant to hang the dress in the closet at the front of the cabin if bringing it in a garment bag, but most likely you will have to lay out flat in the overhead locker on top of other carry on suitcases.  Be sure to use a sturdy soft-sided travel-specific garment bag to bring the bridesmaid dress.
