Delta Airlines Infant and Child Baggage Allowance

Delta Airlines Baggage Allowance for Baby on Lap / Infant In Arms

Delta Airlines does not offer an additional baggage allowance for babies flying in a parent's lap. The only exception is that you are able to check-in a car seat and stroller free of charge, without counting against your baggage allowance. You can also bring a diaper bag as additional carry-on bag with your baby's items, including, diapers, food juice, milk, formula, and a breast pump.

You may check-in your child's stroller and car seat free of charge either at the curb, at the check-in desk together with your regular suitcase, or at the gate before boarding your flight.  [AMZ asins='B000RRD7UG,B00RXW8CVC,B08T4C26XY,B01DD0V4QC']

We recommend bringing your stroller and car seat through security and gate-checking these items. This will allow you to use the stroller while making your way through the airport, and minimize the chances of your car seat and stroller get lost in transit.

If flying with an infant-in-arms, we also recommend bringing your car seat to the gate, rather than checking it in together with your suitcase. This is because in the case that there is an available seat on the flight, you may be allowed to bring your infant's car seat on-board the aircraft for your child to fly in.  A car seat is the safest way for your child to fly in an airplane.

When checking-in your child's car seat and stroller, we recommend protecting them from damage by placing them in "gate-check" protective covers/bags - This will keep them from getting stained, dirty, or torn while they are being moved around at the gate by the baggage handlers. Many of these covers for child car seats and strollers are brightly colored so that the baggage handler at the airport can see them and make sure they don't get lost.

Delta Airlines Baggage Allowance for Infants and Children with Own Seat

All children flying on Delta Airlines with a purchased ticket, in their own assigned seat, receive the same baggage allowance as an adult passenger. The same standard baggage policy applies, including any of Delta's standard checked baggage fees that may apply.

In addition, to the standard baggage allowance, your child is entitled check-in a stroller free of charge - this can be checked in either at the curb, at the check-in desk, or at the gate. You can also bring a car seat free of charge, but in this case the car seat will be coming with you onto the plane for your child to sit in during the flight. Be sure that your child's car seat is government-approved for airline travel, and includes the label that states "This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft".

You may also bring an extra diaper bag as a carry-on item with your child's essentials including diapers, milk, formula, juice, and other child essentials - this bag must meet all of Delta's standard carry-on size and weight limitations.
