Flying with Babies and Kids on Alaska Airlines

Babies Flying on a Parent's Lap on Alaska Airlines

Infants under 2 years old may fly on a parent's lap free of charge on Alaska Airlines - please keep in mind that you will still need to make a reservation for your baby to fly, even when flying on your lap.  Some taxes and fees may apply for babies flying on your lap when flying internationally.

FAA regulations state that all children 2 years old or older must fly in their own assigned seat, so if your baby turns 2 years old during your trip, you will have to purchase a seat for them for the return leg of the trip. Alaska Airlines may ask for proof of age, such as a birth certificate, passport, or other document when checking-in when flying with a lap infant. Adding an Infant on Lap to your Alaska Airlines reservation

To add your baby as a lap infant to your Alaska Airlines reservation, please call 1-800-252-7522, and have your confirmation code ready.

A maximum of one infant per adult is allowed to fly on an adult's lap.  If you are flying with more than one infant per adult, you will need to purchase an individual seat for the other infant.

Because of oxygen mask availability, some limitations regarding seat assignments may apply when flying with a lap infant.  This includes:

Alaska Airlines Flights 1-1999: Maximum 1 Lap Infant per Row

Alaska Airlines Flights 2000-2999: Maximum 2 Lap Infants per Row (1 on each side of aisle) in rows 3-20.

Alaska Airlines Flights 3300-3499: Maximum 1 Lap Infant per Row, on right side of plane only

Lap infants are not allowed in exit rows, or in the row immediately in front of or behind an exit row.

Minimum Age for Baby to Fly on Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines does not set a minimum age for your infant to fly, but they do recommend consulting with a doctor when in doubt whether your child is old enough to fly.  As a guideline, most other airlines require infants be at least between 7-14 days old before flying, unless they have a doctor's note specifically allowing them to fly.

Purchasing a Ticket for a Child on Alaska Airlines

All children 2 years of age or older must fly in their own individual seat.  Your baby may fly on your lap until their 2nd birthday, but if you wish you may also purchase a regular ticket for your baby to fly in.

For your child to fly in their own seat, you will need to purchase a regular adult fare ticket for yoru child to fly.

You will need to provide their own FAA-approved car seat to fly in - in order to use your child's car seat on the plane, it must be labeled with both "This restraint system conforms to all applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards", and "This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft" (in red lettering).

Family Seating on Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines will try to seat families together whenever possible.  You may choose your seats together as a family when booking your flight, but if you cannot find seats the work for you, please contact Alaska Airlines reservations and they will help get you seated together, with at least one adult seated beside any child younger than 13 years old.
