Flying with Babies and Kids on Frontier Airlines

Frontier Airlines is a surprisingly kid-friendly airline, not only allowing young infants 2 years of age and under to fly free on a parent's lap, but also allowing children up to 14 years of age to fly free of charge with their Kids Fly Free promotion. Please note that Frontier's Kids Fly Free promotion only applies to certain flights and that you must be a member of their DISCOUNT DEN travel club program. Check below for more details.

Infants and Babies Under 2 Years Old on Frontier Airlines

Infants and Babies less than 2 years old may fly for free on a parent's lap on Frontier Airlines. This is known as flying as a Lap Baby or Infant on Lap.  Although free, you must still notify the airline that you will be flying with a baby on your lap, and they must be added to your reservation.  A maximum of 1 Infant on Lap per adult is allowed, otherwise an extra seat will need to be purchased for your baby to sit in. An Infant on Lap does not have their own assigned seat, meaning that they will be on your lap for the duration of your flight, and may not use a car seat in flight.  If you prefer that your baby fly in a car seat, which is the safest way for a baby to fly, you may purchase a regular ticket for your baby and they will get their own assigned seat on which you can install your child's car seat.  Keep in mind that the car seat must meet FAA's safety requirements for use on an aircraft, and must meet the labeling requirements that say so.  Look for a label that says "This restraint has been certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft" in red lettering.

Infants and Babies under 2 years of age also qualify for Frontier's KidsFlyFree promotion, meaning that you can book a separate seat for your baby (so they can use their car seat on the plane) for free on some flights, as long as you are a DISCOUNT DEN member.

Minimum Age to Fly on Frontier Airlines

Your baby must be at least 7 days old to fly on Frontier Airlines.

Frontier Airlines KidsFlyFree Promotion

Frontier Airlines offers a Kids Fly Free promotion for their DISCOUNT DEN members, offering specific flights on which kids and children 14 years of age and under can fly for free. Although infants and babies less than 2 years old can fly free of charge on a parent's lap, this promotion also applies to infants, so you can book a separate seat for your baby free of charge even if they are less than 2 years old, as long as it is on a KidsFlyFree promotional flight.

To qualify for the promotion, you must be a member of the Frontier Airlines DISCOUNT DEN program ($59.99 annual fee), and select a Kids Fly Free flight when booking.  You can find the Kids Fly Free logo beneath the price when choosing your flights.

A maximum of 1 child under 15 years old can fly for free for every adult DISOUNT DEN fare purchased. The good news is that only 1 adult needs to be a DISCOUNT DEN member, and they may book up to 9 passengers on one booking.

The Kids Fly Free promotion is only valid on bookings made directly with Frontier Airlines on their website, flyfrontier.com, and only valid for the original booking.  If you change your flight, you will lose the promotion.

The promotion is only valid on flights that are marked as Kids Fly Free (look for the logo when booking), which are select round-trip domestic flights - international flights are not included.

Extra Carry-On Allowance when Flying with Kids on Frontier Airlines

When flying with a child on Frontier Airlines, you may bring a diaper bag as a 2nd Personal Item free of charge.

Family Seating on Frontier Airlines

Frontier Airlines offers the option for families to sit together by pre-selecting their seats when booking your flight.  Some fees may apply depending on the location of the seats, and whether they are seats with extra legroom.

Pre-Boarding for Families on Frontier Airlines

Families flying with young kids are allowed to pre-board early on Frontier Airlines, immediately after the Zone 1 / Priority Boarding passengers are finished with boarding. Please pay attention to the gate agent's announcements for when families are allowed to board early.

Breastfeeding on Frontier Airlines

You are allowed to breastfeed in flight on Frontier Airlines, as well as use a breast pump.  A breast pump is considered a medical device, meaning it can be brought on board the plane and does not count as part of your carry-on allowance.  The TSA allows you to bring juice, formula, and breastmilk for your child through security, so you can bring this onboard for your baby in your diaper bag.  You can ask the flight attendants for ice to keep it cool if necessary.
