Flying with Babies and Kids on Avelo Airlines

Babies Under 2 Years Old Flying on a Parent's Lap

By law, Avelo Airlines is required to allow your babies less than 2 years of age to fly on a parent's or adult's lap.  The airline does not publicize this information very much, encouring you to purchase a ticket for your baby and to allow them to fly in the baby carseat, but they do also offer an "Infant in Lap" option as long as your baby is less than 2 years old.  You can add an "Infant in Lap" while making your booking on the Avelo Airlines website.

If your baby turns 2 years of age while away, they will no longer be allowed to sit on a parent's lap, and must fly in their own seat.  This means that you will have to purchase a seat for your child's return flight, as well as bring a certified child restraint system (baby carseat meeting the requirements for air travel) for your baby to fly in. Using a Child Restraint System on Avelo Airlines

Avelo Airlines, as well as the FAA, recommend that all children, including babies less than 2 years old, fly in a governement-approved baby carseat, as this is the safest way for a baby to fly. In order for a baby to fly in a Child Restraint System / Carseat they will have to have their own purchased ticket.  A baby that is flying as an "Infant in Lap" will not be allowed to use a carseat during the flight.

Baby Carseat / Child Restraint System Labeling Requirements

Your baby's carseat must meet the governement standards for safe use in an aircraft, meeting the following labeling requirements in order to be accepted to be used during your flight:

Seats manufactured between 1981 and 1985 must have a label that states: “This child restraint seat conforms to all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.”

Seats manufactured after February 1985 must have two labels: “This CRS conforms to all applicable Federal motor vehicle standards,” and “This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft” in red lettering.

Seats not manufactured to approved U.S. standards must have a label showing approval of a foreign government or that seats were manufactured under standards of the United Nations. This label consists of letter “E” surrounded by a circle followed by a number of the approving country.

What documents do I need for my Child?

You will need to provide a government-issued ID for your baby in order for them to fly, and to provide proof-of-age that your baby is less than 2 years old when flying on a parent's lap. This must be either a Birth Certificate or a Passport.  Electronic copies, photos, or immunization records are not accepted as valid documentation.

If flying internationally, your baby must have their own passport.

Family Seating on Avelo Airlines

Avelo Airlines does not offer special Family Seating for parents flying with young children.  Although you may request to be seated together as a family, the only way to guarantee that your children will be seated together with you are to reserve your seats ahead of time, which may incur an additional fee.
