Babies Under 2 Fly Free on United Airlines

Babies Under 2 Fly Free on US Domestic Flights with United Airlines

Babies under 2 years old may fly for free on U.S. Domestic flights, sitting on a parent's lap.  This is known as an Lap Baby or Infant in Lap.  Your baby will not need their own ticket, but they must still be added to your reservation as an Infant in Lap, and proof of age must be presented.

You can add your infant to your United Airlines reservation by selecting "Infant on Lap" on the traveler details page when making a booking at United.com, or during the check-in process. [AMZ asins='B00TSL2UJ6,B089NR6B41,B01DD0V4QC,B09NCDP4SM']

A maximum of 1 lap infant per adult is allowed, so if flying alone with 2 or more infants under the age of 2, the other infants will need to have their own assigned seats with their own ticket.

If you prefer for your baby under 2 years old fly in their car seat (the safest way for a baby to fly), they will need their own assigned seat, meaning you will have to purchase a regular adult ticket for your baby.

Babies Under 2 Pay Only Taxes on United Airlines Between US/Canada/Mexico

Babies and infants under 2 years old may fly on their parent's lap paying only the taxes and fees for their ticket, to cover things such as immigration and customs fees at the airport, when flying between the US, Canada, and Mexico.  United Airlines will not charge a base-fare for infants to fly on your lap on these routes.

Once again, only 1 lap infant per adult is allowed, so additional kids will need to have their own purchased ticket with their own assigned seat.

United Airlines Discounted Tickets for Babies Less than 2 Years Old

United Airlines offers discounted international tickets for babies younger than 2 years old to fly on a parent's lap. A partial fare will be charged for your baby to fly on your lap on international flights, depending on your destination.  Please keep in mind that this is for a baby under 2 years old to fly on your lap - if you wish they have their own assigned seat, or your baby is older than 2 years old, you will have to purchase a regular adult ticket for your child.

Minimum Age Requirements to Fly on United Airlines

Your infant must be at least 7 days old, and no more than 2 years old to fly on your lap.  Proof of age, such as a birth certificate, will be required for your baby to fly.

If your baby turns 2 years old during your trip, they will have to have their own ticket with an assigned seat for the return portion of the flight.
