Flying with Babies and Kids on United Airlines

Does my Child Need a Ticket to Fly on United Airlines?

All children over 2 years of age must fly in their own assigned seats, and must have a regular adult fare purchased. Children under 2 years of age may fly on a parent's lap on United Airlines, but will still need to be added to the adult's reservation.

Babies and Infants under 2 years of age may fly on a parent's lap free of charge on US Domestic flights, or paying only the taxes and fees for flights between the US/Canadad/Mexico.  On international flights, you will need to purchase a ticket for your lap infant at a discounted fare.   [AMZ asins='B00RXW8CVC,B000RRD7UG,B07MZFD26C,B00TSL2UJ6']

Minimum Age to Fly on United Airlines

All babies must be at least 7 days old to fly on United Airlines.

Breastfeeding on United Airlines

United Airlines allows breastfeeding and pumping of breastmilk at your seat.  If you prefer, may also choose to do so in the lavatories. You are also allowed to bring breast milk, formula, and breast pumps onto the plane.  United Airlines will NOT store breastmilk in the airplane's fridges or coolers, but United Airlines flight attendants will be able to bring you ice to keep milk and formula cool while flying.

Baby Bassinets on United Airlines

United Airlines offers free baby bassinets for use in United Polaris Business Class and in Economy Class on some international flights.  Please contact United Airlines Reservations to request a bassinet, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Family Seating on United Airlines

United Airlines unfortunately does not offer free family seating when flying with children.  When flying together with kids, your best option is to select your seats (a seat selection fee will most likely apply for most fare types) together when making your booking.

If you have not selected your seats ahead of time, you will be assigned seats automatically, but it is possible you will not be assigned seats together.  If you have been seated separately, you may speak with a United Airlines agent at the airport when checking-in and you may get re-seated, but this cannot be guaranteed.

Are there Baby Changing Tables on United Airlines?

There are baby changing tables in the lavatories on United Flights operating the following aircraft:

Select Boeing 757-200

Please ask the flight attendant about which lavatory on the plane has a changing table.

In-Flight Entertainment for Children on United Airlines

United Airlines offers activity books for kids on some flights to keep them occupied and entertainment during your trip. United Airlines's Children's Travel Kit inludes an activity book, crayons, and a toy. If bringing a tablet for your children to watch movies or play games, make sure it is completely charged before the flight, as power outlets are not guaranteed. Be sure to bring your child's headphones as well.
