United Airlines Infant and Child Baggage Allowance

Additional Carry-On Allowance for Flying with Kids on United Airlines

When traveling with a child on United Airlines, you may bring an extra diaper bag free of charge onto the plane, in addition to your regular carry-on allowance. This also includes bringing a breast pump, milk, and formula for your baby.

You may bring a car seat into the cabin only if it is an FAA-approved car seat approved for Aircraft use, meeting the FAA's labeling requirements, and if your child has their own reserved seat (not flying as an Infant in Lap). [AMZ asins='B000RRD7UG,B00RXW8CVC,B08T4C26XY,B01DD0V4QC']

Checked Baggage Allowance for Children on United Airlines

Children with their own assigned seats (2 years of age or older, or less than 2 years old with own ticket) have the same checked baggage rules applied as regular United Airlines adult passengers, including all of United's standard baggage fees.  In addition, all children (both with own assigned seat and flying as lap infant) are allowed to check-in a stroller (or folding wagon) and car seat free of charge that do not count against their regular checked baggage allowance.

Your child's car seat and stroller may be checked in either at the ticket counter together with regular suitcases, or brought through security and checked-in at the boarding gate (known as "gate-checking") when getting onto the plane. If you have a larger or non-collapsible stroller, it will have to be checked-in at the ticket counter, and cannot be gate-checked, but this is also free of charge.
