Infants Under 2 Fly Free on Domestic Flights
Infants and Babies under 2 years of age may fly for free on Southwest domestic flights when flying on a parent's lap. They do not need their own ticket, must be added to your reservation and have a Boarding Verification Document when boarding the flight. You may add a baby to your reservation either online or at the self-serve kiosk at the airport.
Only babies less than 2 years old may fly on a parent's lap. If your baby is older than 2 years old, they must fly in their own seat, meaning that you will need to purchase a regular adult ticket for your child.

You may be asked to provide proof of age for your child when checking-in, either an original or photocopy of your baby's birth certificate, passport, or other government-issued ID. Photographs and screenshots will not be accepted proof of age.
If you cannot provide proof-of-age for your baby that they are less than 2 years of age, you will have to purchase an individual seat for your child in order to be allowed to fly. If this is the case, you may ask for a refund from Southwest airlines by providing proof-of-age via email after your flight.
Cost for Infants to Fly on Southwest International Flights
Babies and Infants under 2 years of age may fly on a parent's lap on international flights. You will be responsible to pay any applicable taxes and fees that are charged for international passengers, including immigration fees, security charges, and other fees that are typically included in a flight ticket.
For a baby under 2 years of age to fly in their own individual assigned seat, you may purchase a regular ticket for your baby to fly. This will allow them to fly in an FAA-approved car seat (the safest way for a baby to fly), and receive Southwest's regular 2 free checked bag luggage allowance.
