Babies Under 2 Fly Free on American Airlines

Babies Under 2 Fly Free on American Airlines Domestic

Babies and Infants under 2 years old may fly free of charge on American Airlines flights when flying on a parent's (or other adult over 16) lap.  You will still be required to add your baby to your reservation as an "Infant in Lap", and will be asked to provide proof of age at check-in.

To add an "Infant in Lap", you may do so when making your original booking, by selecting "Add Infant in Lap" on the Passenger Details page when buying your ticket, or adding an infant in lap to an existing booking by visiting the "Passengers" page of your trip on aa.com. You will be allowed to bring a stroller and car seat free of charge for your infant, to be checked-in at the check-in desk or gate-checked when boarding the plane (all strollers over 9 kg / 20 lbs must be checked in at the ticket counter, and cannot be checked-in at the gate).

Babies Under 2 on American Airlines International Flights

You may fly with an infant under 2 years old on your lap on American Airlines international flights.  Some taxes and fees may apply when flying internationally, for which you will still be responsible.  To add your baby to your reservation for an international flight, you will not be able to do so online - please call American Airlines Reservations for more information.

You will be allowed to bring 1 extra cheked bag for your infant, paying only the same fee as a 1st checked bag fee as for the adult.  In addition, you may bring a stroller and baby car seat free of charge.

Proof of age will be required, as well as all necessary international documentation (passports, letter of permission of flying with only 1 parent, etc.)
