You must be 18 years of age or older to fly with a firearm, or provide proof of firearm safety training.

Packing your Firearm on Sun Country Airlines

Your firearm must be UNLOADED and packed in a LOCKED, HARD-SIDED Case.

You may pack a maximum of 3 rifles/shotguns per case, or 5 shotguns/revolvers per case, plus a shooting mat, noise suppressors, and tools. There is no limit to the number of cases, but bear in mind that all standard checked baggage fees apply (including Checked, Excess, Overweight, and Oversize fees).

Ammunition must be packed in its original container or a box specifically designed for carrying small amounts of ammunition. Loose ammunition is NOT ACCEPTED.

A maximum of 11 lbs / 5 kg of ammunition is allowed per passenger.

Securely packed ammunition may be packed inside your locked firearms case.

Pellet and BB guns are treated the same as other firearms and require the same handling.

Be sure that there are no exterior tags or description of contents showing that there is a firearm packed inside the case.

The locked hard-sided case must not be able to be easily pried open. Some cases for long guns and rifles with locks in the middle may not be sufficiently secure and may not be accepted. Be sure that your gun case secures your weapon properly.  Multiple locks may be necessary.

Paintball Guns on Sun Country Airlines

Paintball guns are accepted in checked baggage on Sun Country Airlines, and are not subject to the case restrictions of firearms, but you MUST declare your paintball gun to the check-in agent.

Compressed gas cylinders may be packed in either your checked baggage or carry-on only if the regulator valve is completely disconnected and the cylinder is not sealed (has an open end). Sealed cylinders are not allowed.

Checking-In your Firearm with Sun Country Airlines

When arriving at the airport, you will have to check-in your firearm with a check-in agent inside the airport, and declare that you are flying with a firearm and/or ammunition.

You wil be asked to sign a Firearms Declaration form that your firearm is unloaded, which must be placed in the firearms case.

Your firearm and/or case may be inspected by a TSA Agent after your gun case is tagged. No Sun Country Airlines employee will handle your firearm.

Your firearm case will count toward your regular checked baggage allowance, and any standard Sun Country Airlines baggage fees will apply, inluding any overweight, oversize, and excess baggage fees.
