Advance Notice when Flying with Firearms on Hawaiian Airlines

Unlike some other airlines, Hawaiian Airlines requires you call the Hawaiian Airlines Reservations Department at least 48 hours before your flight to provide notice that you will be flying with a firearm and/or ammunition.

It is your responsibility to comply with any local, state, federal, and international laws regarding transportation of ammunition or firearms at your origin, destination, and stopover destinations.

Weight Limits when Packing a Gun on Hawaiian Airlines

Your firearms case is limited to a maximum of 70 lbs / 32 kg, and a limit of 11 lbs / 5 kg of ammunition is allowed per passenger. The ammunition "allowance" cannot be packed in the same bag, combined, shared, or transferred between passengers.

Packing your Firearm on Hawaiian Airlines

Your firearm must be UNLOADED and packed in a LOCKED, HARD-SIDED case.  Clips and magazines must be removed.

If your locked case can be easily pried open, it will not be accepted. This applies both to stand-alone cases and to cases placed inside another piece of checked baggage.  Many gun cases can be easily pried open, even while locked. Any case that does not provide adequate security from breach will be denied.

Ammunition must be in its original packaging, or in a box specifially designed for securely carrying small amounts of ammunition.  Loose ammunition is NOT permitted.

Your ammunition may be packed into your gun case only as long as the case has a designated storage space for ammunition that secures it and protects it from shock and movement. Ammunition must not be loose or loaded into a clip or magazine.

Paintball Guns and Airsoft Guns on Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian Airlines will accept your Paintball and Airsoft Guns as long as the CO2 tank or magazine is removed and empty.

The gun must be placed inside and case, and declared to a Hawaiian Airlines representative at check-in inside the airport.

Standard checked baggage fees will apply.

Checking-In your Firearm with Hawaiian Airlines

Remember that with Hawaiian Airlines you first have to notify the airline at least 48 hours before your flight that you will be flying with a firearm and/or ammunition. You must do so by calling the Hawaiian Airlines Reservations Department.

On the day of your flight, you will have to check-in and declare your firearm with a Hawaiian Airlines representative at the Check-In desk INSIDE the airport.  You cannot curb-side check your firearm, or use a self-service kiosk, mobile check-in, self-serve check-in, or website check-in.

After inspection, you will have to sign and place a Firearms Declaration Tag with your firearm.
