Hawaiian Airlines Wheelchair Policy and Special Assistance Guide

Preparing to Fly With Your Wheelchair on Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian airlines recommends giving at least 48 hours notice that you will be travelling with your wheelchair by calling their reservations department at 1-800-367-5320. They also recommend that you fill out their wheelchair description form (https://apps.hawaiianairlines.com/Resources/faq/pdf/HA_wheelchair_form.pdf) and bring it with you when you check in.

Checking in Your Wheelchair on Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian Airlines recommends that you allow for an extra hour more than their recommended check in times, in order to ensure that your wheelchair can be transported safely.  [AMZ asins='B07YNFD9LJ,B01L28ANI2,B074MW1MTW,B00RKJUPS6']

Most of Hawaiian Airlines’ aircraft are able to transport up to 2 folding, manual wheelchairs in the cabin, provided the flight is not full. This service is available on a first come first served basis, and you must let staff know before pre-boarding begins. If in-cabin space is unavailable, your wheelchair will be transported in the cargo hold.

Wheelchair Size Limits on Hawaiian Airlines

For North American/International Routes : Wheelchair dimensions must not exceed 39”x64”

For Routes Between the Hawaiian Islands : Wheelchair dimensions must not exceed 29”x32”

Battery Operated Wheelchairs on Hawaiian Airlines

Hawaiian Airlines accepts wet-cell, dry-cell, gel, and lithium battery operated wheelchairs for transport.

Wet Cell: Batteries must be removed from the wheelchair and stored in an approved battery box for transport. If you do not have your own battery box, Hawaiian Airlines will provide one for you. Battery terminals must be isolated to prevent short circuiting and protect them from exposure.

Dry and Gel-Cell: Must be removed from the wheelchair unless the cables are disconnected from the battery, the terminals are covered or isolated to prevent exposure or short circuit, and the battery is securely attached to the wheelchair.

Lithium Ion batteries over 100 Wh and not exceeding 300Wh must be removed and transported as carry-on baggage. Non-removable lithium ion batteries in excess of 100 Wh are prohibited. Any lithium ion batteries in excess of 300 Wh are prohibited. You may travel with one spare battery up to 300 Wh, or up to two spare batteries up to 160 Wh each.

Damaged or Lost Wheelchairs on Hawaiian Airlines

If your wheelchair is lost, damaged, or destroyed you must provide documented proof to Hawaiian and make a claim for damages. If it is possible for Hawaiian airlines to return your wheelchair to you in the same condition as they received it by making reasonable repairs, they will do so.
