Flying with Babies and Kids on Air Transat

Air Transat offers designated check-in counters for families travelling with kids, making the whole check-in process much smoother and easier when arriving at the airport. Air Transat also offers pre-boarding on most flights (except on flights to the US) for families with young children to get seated comfortably when starting your journey.

We recommend registering your kids for free with Air Transat's Kids Club for your children to receive some additional perks on their trip, including travel goodies, free seat selection, family check-in counter, priority baggage handling, and snacks from the Bistro menu. Family Seating on Air Transat Flights

Air Transat offers free family seating for families flying with kids 2-13 years old, meaning that your can be assigned seats that are grouped together free of charge.  This applies to standard seats on Air Transat flights that are booked together on one reservation.

If you are a family of 6 or more, or have made your reservations separately, you can contact Air Transat's contact centre at 1-877-TRANSAT to ask to be seated together. Keep in mind that the family seating offer applies only to standard seats - if you prefer to fly in premium seats, you will have to pay extra for your selection.

Babies Younger than 2 Years Old on Air Transat

Babies and Infants younger than 2 years old may fly on Air Transat either on a parent's lap or in their own assigned seat.  Babies must be a minimum of 7 days old to fly on Air Transat.

Your baby may fly on your lap as long as they are less than 2 years old, or you may choose to purchase a separate seat for your baby to fly in a car seat, which is the safest way for a baby to fly.

Your baby may fly for free on domestic Air Transat flights and to southern destinations, paying only the taxes and fees depending on the destination. On transatlantic flights, your lap-held infant will need to purchase a ticket at 10% the base-fare of a regular ticket, plus applicable taxes and fees.

If your baby turns 2 years old during your trip, they will be required to fly in their own assigned seat for the return portion of your flight.  Please contact Air Transat directly to arrange to purchase a return ticket for your baby.

For Air Transat vacation packages, prices may vary.

Baby Bassinets on Air Transat

Air Transat offers baby bassinets on some flights. You may request a baby bassinet free of charge when making your reservation.  Keep in mind that the number of bassinets is limited, so we recommend requesting a bassinet for your baby as early as possible for the best chance that you will be assigned a bassinet.

Unfortunately, baby bassinets are not confirmed until you board the plane and the flight attendant has assessed that your baby meets the safety limits of the bassinets.

To be eligible for a bassinet, your baby must weigh less than 11 kg (24 lbs), and their height must not exceed the dimensions of the bassinet (68 x 30 x 15 cm)

Children 2-11 Years Old on Air Transat

All children older than 2 years old must fly in their own assigned seat on Air Transat flights. On domestic flights to/from southern destinations, your child will need a regular priced ticket to fly. On transatlantic flights, children between 2-11 years old may fly for 25% off the regular ticket price, plus applicable taxes and fees (max 3 kids per adult may receive the discounted rate).

You will be required to provide a Transport Canada approved car seat that is certified for your airplane travel for your child to travel in.  Air Transat does not provide car seats. Your car seat must meet one of the following requirements in order to be allowed to fly on Air Transat flights:

Canada – manufactured after January 1, 1981, and labeled “CMVSS 213 or 213.1 Canada.”

U.S.A. – manufactured after February 26, 1985, and labeled: “This child restraint system conforms to all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards” or “This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft.”

Europe – manufactured to the UN ECE standard and labeled: an international approval label consisting of a circle surrounding the letter “E” followed by the distinguishing number of the country that has granted approval (reflects UN standard ECE R 44, revision 03 or later), and second label that states it is approved for use in aircraft.

Car seats manufactured in any other country are not approved for use on Air Transat flights.
