Babies Under 2 Fly Free on Westjet

Babies Under 2 Years Old on Parents Lap on Westjet Flights

Babies under 2 years old may fly for free on Westjet flights while sitting on a parent's (or passenger over 16 years of age) lap, but a ticket is still required for all infants.  Westjet will not charge a base fare or taxes for an infant to fly on your lap, but some additional fees may apply if flying internationally.

A maximum of 1 lap-baby per adult over 16 years of age is allowed.  If you are flying as one parent with 2 babies under 2 years of age, only one of the infants may fly on your lap - the other will need to have their own assigned seat purchased for them. Fee for Lap Baby Under 2 Years of Old Flying on Westjet to/from USA

On Westjet flights to/from the USA, a baby under 2 years old may fly on your lap free of charge (Westjet will not charge the base fare nor taxes), but you still need a ticket.  Some fees will still apply for your child, such as the US Department of Agriculture APHIS fee and the US Immigration User Fee.

Minimum Age for Baby to Fly on Westjet

All babies must be at least 8 days old to fly on Westjet - if you need to fly with an infant less than 8 days old, Westjet will require a physician's letter giving permission for you to fly with your newborn child.

Children Over 2 Years Old on Westjet Flights

If your child is over 2 years old, they must fly in their own seat, and need to have a normal "Adult" ticket to fly.  You will need to purchase full-priced fare for your child.  All standard "adult" baggage rules apply, but you are able to bring 2x baby items free of charge, such as a car seat and stroller, or a car seat and playpen. You are responsible to provide a Transport Canada or FAA-approved child car seat that is approved for use in aircraft for your child to fly in.

If your baby is under 2 years old on the departing flight, but turns 2 years old before your return flight, they can fly on your lap for free on the outbound flight, but you will need to purchase a return ticket with their own assigned seat at full fare for the return portion of your flight. Please contact Westjet directly if this is your case, so they can help you out in booking your child's return ticket.
