Volaris Airlines Wheelchair Policy and Special Assistance Guide

Checking in Your Wheelchair and Requesting Airport Assistance with Volaris


Volaris doesn’t charge any baggage fees for checking your wheelchair, but do recommend requesting airport wheelchair assistance when making your booking. In doing so, you will be provided with assistance through the airport to the gate, as well as onto the aircraft. When you reach your destination, you will receive assistance from the aircraft to reclaim your baggage and your wheelchair. 

When you check in your wheelchair with Volaris, you will be given a receipt with your name, destination, flight number, and location where you will reclaim your wheelchair.  [AMZ asins='B07YNFD9LJ,B01L28ANI2,B074MW1MTW,B00RKJUPS6']

All manual folding wheelchairs will be transported in a dedicated stowage space in a priority cargo hold, and will be the first items removed from the aircraft.

Battery Operated Wheelchairs on Volaris


Should you be travelling with a battery operated wheelchair, Volaris requires you to arrive a minimum of three hours before your departure time for domestic flights, and a minimum of four hours before your departure for international flights. Volaris only accepts dry and non-spillable batteries for transport in the cargo hold, and recommend you bring your wheelchair's manual or other instructions on how to disconnect the battery. Wet-cell or lithium batteries are not permitted by Volaris.

Damaged or Lost Wheelchairs with Volaris


Should your manual, folding wheelchair become lost, delayed, or damaged, Volaris will either provide a temporary replacement or reimburse you for a rental, at your discretion. If you require compensation, Volaris will go above and beyond to ensure said compensation is fair.
