The new Volaris fare types have introduced a low-cost fare, called Vuela Basic, with no checked baggage allowance. The Vuela Classic fare also no longer includes a free checked bag, so you will have to pay for all checked bags. Only the Vuela Plus fare includes 1 free checked bag weighing up to 25 kg / 55 lbs.
Be sure to know which fare-type you are purchasing, and it's associated baggage allowance. It is sometimes much cheaper (up to 50% less) to purchase your bags at the time of booking, rather than adding it on afterward or at the airport (most expensive). However, this is not always the case, Volaris seems to have a bit erratic pricing for adding bags, and it is sometimes cheaper to pay for your bag at the airport than online - see the details below. A good option is to consider the "More Baggage Combo", for up to $160 Low Season or $200 High Season USD on International Flights (when booked in advance) to add 1 carry-on item, 1 checked bag, and 1 sporting equipment for a single fee. Although not as significant as in years past, there are still savings when compared to buying these items separately, especially when pre-booking the combo online. As of June 28 2022, there is a "More Baggage Combo" available for Intra-Central America flights for $100 USD at time of booking. For 2022, the More Baggage Combo is no longer available to be booked online for domestic flights, you must contact the call centre. For international flights you can add this combo via Volaris.com.
Each checked bag is limited to 55lbs / 25 kg, otherwise excess weight fees will apply.
Volaris "Vuela Plus"
The Volaris "Vuela Plus" fare allows 1 Free checked bag, weighing up to a maximum of 55lbs/25kg, and 2 carry-on bags with a total weight of 10 kg / 22 lbs. Additional baggage fees are the same as detailed above for "2nd Bag Fee".
You may take up to a total of 4 extra checked bags of maximum 55 lbs. and 62 total inches (height + width + length) each, for an extra cost per checked piece. Extra baggage can be purchased online at the time of booking for the lowest rates, otherwise you will be charged more when adding it to your reservation or when checking in at the airport.
