Flying with a Wedding Dress on Avelo Airlines

Bringing a Wedding Dress in the Cabin on Avelo Airlines

Avelo Airlines will accept your wedding dress instead of a carry-on suitcase (it can either be packed in your carry-on suitcase, or in a travel garment bag), as long as you pay the regular carry-on baggage fee (currently set at $40-$45 when making your reservation, $60 when adding it later, or $65 at the airport).  Be sure to note that this fee has gone up in 2023 compared to last year's fee of $50.

It is stated on their website that Avelo Airlines "may accept a carry-on bag of unusual dimensions (e.g., document tube, fishing rod, tennis racket, wedding attire, etc.) so long as it passes TSA security checkpoint guidelines and it safely fits in an overhead bin and the carry-on bag fee is paid." When boarding the plane, you can ask a crew member whether there is space in jacket closet, if one exists on your flight, to hang your wedding dress.  Otherwise, your best option is to lay it flat on top of other suitcases in the overhead locker.

Although the Checked Bag fee is the same as the Carry On Bag fee on Avelo Airlines, we recommend bringing your dress on-boad into the cabin with you - this way you can make sure your dress doesn't get lost in transit before your wedding.  Make sure to pack your shoes, jewellery, and other essential accesories into your carry-on bag as well.

Bringing a Clothes Steamer on Avelo Airlines

You can bring a clothes steamer through TSA Security and into the cabin of the aircraft as long as there is no liquid left inside. You can also pack your steamer into your regular checked suitcase if you wish.  We definitely recommend bringing a clothes steamer to get the wrinkles out of your dress once you arrive at your destination.

Flying with a Bridesmaid Dress on Avelo Airlines

You can fly with a bridesmaid dress either packed into your carry-on suitcase (max dimensions 22 x 14 x 9 inches) upon payment of the carry-on bag fee, or in a garment bag. If bringing your dress in a garment bag, make sure to place it on top of the suitcases in the overhead locker, so it doesn't get crushed by other passenger's suitcases.
