Avelo Airlines Firearms Policy 2023: Flying with Guns, Firearms, and Ammo Guide

Firearms including sport rifles, shotguns, and handguns may be transported on Avelo Airlines only as Checked Baggage.  Guns and Firearms are never accepted in carry-on baggage.

Packing Your Firearm on Avelo Airlines

All firearms must be UNLOADED and packed in a Hard-Sided, Locked container acceptable to Avelo Airlines to withstand regular baggage handling. [AMZ asins='B07B7ZB484,B09FS5JJM3,B094WBMGRM,B0001HCBOU']

Your locked hard-sided case must be able to NOT be easily pried open.

Your firearm or ammunition cannot be packed loose inside a checked bag. Locking Hard-Sided Baggage will NOT be considered an acceptable container.

Ammunition on Avelo Airlines

Ammunition is limited to 11 lbs / 5 kg per passenger. Ammunition must be encased in its original container or in a suitable sturdy box specifically designed for transporting small amounts of ammunition.

Magazines and Clips must be packaged securely, and the cartridge primers must be protected. 

Checking-In Firearms on Avelo Airlines

A maximum of 2 shotguns, 2 rifles, or 2 handguns may be packed in a single gun case on Avelo Airlines. Gun cases and boxes are subject to all applicable excess, oversize, and overweight charges.

You will have to declare your firearm to an Avelo Airlines agent at the check-in desk inside the airport, and sign a Firearms Declaration Tag declaring that your firearm is unloaded.

Your firearm will be inspected by a TSA Agent before being checked in.  You must retain the key/combo to the locks on your firearm case with you for the duration of your trip.
