Avelo Airlines Car Seat and Stroller Policy

Bringing a Baby's Carseat on Avelo Airlines

You may bring a baby's carseat on Avelo Airlines free of charge.  Whether the carseat flies in the cabin or in the cargo compartment depends on whether your child is flying in their own seat or on a parent's lap.

Please keep in mind that your child's carseat must meet the FAA labeling requirements for safe use in an aircraft in order for it be allowed to be used in flight. [AMZ asins='B000RRD7UG,B06XTT17QC,B0009RNXNA,B084RB2WN9']

Flying with a Carseat in the Cabin on Avelo Airlines

Your baby can fly in their carseat on Avelo Airlines flights.  This is the safest way for a baby to fly, and is considered safer than flying on a parent's lap.

In order to use a carseat in-flight, your child must have their own purchased ticket with an assigned seat.  Babies less than 2 years old flying on a parent's lap are not allowed to bring a carseat into the cabin, and must remain on their parent's lap for the duration of the flight.

Babies flying in a carseat must remain securely strapped into the carseat during take-off, landing, and turbulence, or whenever the fasten-seatbelt sign is turned on.

Labeling Requirements for using a Carseat on Avelo Airlines flights

Your baby's carseat must meet the following governement-required labeling requirements in order to be allowed to be used in flight.

Seats manufactured between 1981 and 1985 must have a label that states: “This child restraint seat conforms to all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.”

Seats manufactured after February 1985 must have two labels: “This CRS conforms to all applicable Federal motor vehicle standards,” and “This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft” in red lettering.

Seats not manufactured to approved U.S. standards must have a label showing approval of a foreign government or that seats were manufactured under standards of the United Nations. This label consists of letter “E” surrounded by a circle followed by a number of the approving country.

Using a Baby's Carseat on Avelo Airlines

Your child's carseat must be installed in the correct orientation (forward-facing or rear-facing) as designed for your child's size and weight. Your child's carseat must be no wider than 16.5-17 inches, which is the space between the seat armrests on Avelo aircraft.

Booster seats are not allowed to be used in flight, but they may be checked-in and transported on Avelo flights free of charge.

Checking-In your Baby's Carseat on Avelo Airlines

If your child's carseat will not be used in flight, for example  if your chlid is flying on your lap, Avelo Airlines will transport it as a piece of checked luggage free of charge. You can either drop off your carseat at the check-in desk together with your regular suitcases, or bring it with you to the boarding-gate and "gate-check" the carseat when boarding the plane.

We recommend bringing the carseat to the boarding-gate whenever you can, to minimize the chance of your carseat getting lost or damaged in the luggage handling system. Many parents like to use a brightly-colored "Gate-Check" carseat protective cover to catch the baggage handler's attention, as well to protect the carseat from stains, scuffs, or tears when being placed in the baggage hold.

Flying with a Stroller on Avelo Airlines

Avelo Airlines will accept to transport your child's stroller free of charge.  You can either drop it off at the check-in desk together with your suitcase, or you can choose to use the stroller throughout the airport and drop it off when boarding the plane.

We recommend dropping off your stroller at the boarding gate, in order to minimize the chance of your stroller being lost or damaged while in transit.  It will either be returned to you when exiting the aircraft, or it will end up at the Oversize Luggage baggage carousel at your destination.
