Finnair's surfboard policy accepts a surfboard as one piece of special baggage, meaning that it may be accepted as a regular piece of checked luggage as long as it's dimensions are less than 190cm x 75cm x 65cm (75in x 29.5in x 25.5in), and weighs less than 23 kg / 50 lbs. This means that smaller shortboards, less than 6'0, may be accepted as a regular suitcase.

If you are bringing a surfboard that is larger than these dimensions, or if your surfboard is in excess of your regular free checked baggage allowance, you will be charged Finnair's surfboard fee. These are quite pricey, so you may consider booking with a different airline when flying with a surfboard. [AMZ asins='B00HTA1Z6C,B00GGPK0V2,B00NIYJF6U,B0053TGSK4']

The maximum weight of a surfboard bag is 23 kg / 50 lbs. If your boardbag weighs more than 23 kg / 50 lbs (up to a maximum of 32 kg / 70 lbs), you will be charged Finnair's Heavy Bag fee, which depends on the origin/destination of your flight.

When flying with a surfboard, it is best to inform Finnair ahead of time, as space may be limited in the cargo hold. We recommend adding your surfboard to your reservation as early as possible, either online via Manage Reservation, or by calling the airline.
