Alaska Airlines is a very windsurfer-friendly airline, not charging additional overweight/oversize fees for your windsurf equipment.

Windsurfing Equipment is accepted by Alaska Airlines as a standard piece of checked baggage. Alaska's regular checked baggage fees apply, but oversize and overweight fees are waived. [AMZ asins='B07WSRXMS8,3903038180,3937323228,B00JE3E028']

Alaska Airlines allows for multiple piece to be checked in and considered as a single piece of checked luggage, so you may pack your board separately from the sail and rig, although depending on your check-in agent you may be charged for multiple items, so we recommend packing your gear together if possible (as long as you stay below the 45 kg / 100 lbs limit).

If checked-in as a first bag, the fee for your windsurfing gear will be $35, or $45 as a second piece of luggage. If your windsurfing equipment is in addition to 2 standard suitcases, a 3rd Baggage fee of $150 will apply instead.

The increased 1st and 2nd checked luggage fees ($35/$45 vs $30/$40) apply to all flights booked on/after January 2nd 2024.

The higher $150 3rd / Extra Bag fee applies on all Alaska Airlines flights purchased on/after June 30 2023. The previous extra bag fee of $100 still applies to flights purchased before June 30 2023.
