Carry-On Summary

Most Air Transat flights in economy class allow only 1 piece of carry-on, limited to 10kg in weight (22 lbs).

Air Transat is one of those airlines that actually weighs your carry-on, and will make you re-pack if needed, so be sure to check carefully how much you are allowed for your destination.

Club Class passengers are usually allowed up to 15kg of carry-on, free of charge.

Checked Baggage Summary

Air Transat has switched from a weight concept to piece concept baggage allowance, meaning you are limited to the number of checked bags allowed, with a maximum weight for each bag.

On Domestic flights and flights between Canada and the US, economy ECO and ECO PROMO passengers will be charged $25 for their first bag, and $35 for a second bag, up to a maximum weight of 23kg/50lbs each. This also applies to South destinations.

On European flights and to/from the middle east, the first bag is included for all passengers.

Air Transat Oversize/Overweight Baggage Fees 2018 ↑ Back to Top

Excess/Oversize/Overweight Summary

Overweight and Oversize baggage is either charged per kilogram, at a rate of $15/kg, or at a flat rate of $75 per overweight bag, depending on the destination of your flight.

If you will be travelling with overweight bags, it is sometimes cheaper to pre-purchase an additional weight allowance through the "KiloFlex" program. However, this only makes sense if you will be really exceeding the baggage allowance, as there is a minimum purchase of 10kg at $10/kg rate ($100 minimum purchase).

Another option to explore is upgrading to Option Plus, which offers about 10kg of extra baggage allowance for most routes, as well as other "benefits" such as alcoholic drinks, priority dinner service, extra snacks included, etc.

Reminder: No single bag can weigh more than 32kg.

If you'll be taking additional pieces of baggage, such as a second or third suitcase, the first piece above the number you have "free" will cost you $100, with every additional bag after that usually going for $200.

Depending on how much extra baggage/weight you're taking, it sometimes makes sense to pack into heavier bags and pre-purchase the overweight fee, than to pack into separate bags.
