Carry-on Baggage limits on routes between China and USA
For passengers traveling in first class or business class, two items of carry-on baggage are allowed per passenger. For passengers traveling in economy class, one item of carry-on baggage is allowed per passenger.

Your carry-on baggage should meet the following provisions:
Each item of carry-on baggage must not weigh more than 22 lbs (10 kilograms).
On flights which implement restrictions on the number of carry-on baggage items allowed per passenger, the sum of the length, width and height of one item of carry-on baggage may not exceed 45 in (115 cm). On flights which implement weight restrictions on carry-on baggage, the total surface area of an individual item of carry-on baggage must not exceed the dimensions of 8in x 16in x 22in (20cm x 40cm x 55cm).
Carry-on baggage must be able to fit into the overhead compartment or under the seat directly in front of the passenger whom the carry-on baggage belongs to.

In addition to carry-on baggage that meets the stated provisions, all passengers - with the exception of infants - traveling on our international flights are also permitted to take items which may be used during the flight without any extra charge. Examples of such items are listed below:
An overcoat
A shawl
A blanket
An umbrella
A walking stick or cane
A pair of binoculars
A camera
A reasonable amount of reading material
A standard - sized cosmetic bag, handbag or backpack
A briefcase or laptop bag

Carry-on baggage limits on international routes other than between China and USA
Each passenger holding a first or business class ticket may take two carry-on bags. The total weight of the two pieces may not exceed 10kg in weight and each article may not exceed 15 x 11 x 6 inches (38 x 28 x 15cm) in size.

Each passenger holding an economy class ticket may take one piece of carry-on baggage. The volume of each article may not exceed 6X12X17 inches (20X40X55 cm, including wheels, handles and side bags), with the maximum weight not exceeding 10 kg. Baggage which exceeds these limits in terms of quantity, weight and volume will be considered excess and must be sent as checked baggage.

The following personal articles are allowed to be carried on board and are not counted in the baggage allowance (not includes babes traveling on 10% fare):
An overcoat, cape, or blanket;
An umbrella or stick;
Binoculars;
A camera;
A reasonable amount of reading material;
A cosmetic bag and so on

Carry-on baggage limits on domestic routes within China
The weight of carry-on baggage for each passenger may not exceed 5kg.
Each passenger holding a first or business class ticket may take two carry-on bags. Each passenger holding an economy class ticket may take one piece of carry-on baggage.
The volume of each article may not exceed 6X12X17 inches (20X40X55 cm, including wheels, handles and side bags).
Baggage which exceeds these limits in terms of quantity, weight and volume will be considered excess and must be sent as checked baggage.

CHINA AND NORTH AMERICA
Baggage Allowance and Fees for International Routes

Note:
Students must have purchased a ticket at a Hainan Airlines Ticketing Office in person to receive free baggage allowance offer. Also, students are required to travel on student fares (SD) and to present appropriate identification and documents at the time of ticketing and check-in. The baggage allowance policy does not apply to passengers traveling with a group, passengers with a free ticket, nor passengers who have purchased tickets online.

*A child booster seat or collapsible stroller is allowed within the cabin upon approval of the cabin manager and if space is available.

Passengers to further destinations via Seattle with Alaska Airlines' connecting flights within 12 hours w same free baggage rate for the Alaska segment; if the connecting time is beyond 12 hours, AS is charging additional baggage fee at the following rate: 20 USD of each piece for the first third pieces and 50 USD of each from the fourth piece (for non-AS-members). On China-Canada and China-USA flights, some items are taken as one piece of baggage with the total length of three sizes not over 62 in.
As long as the sum of the length, width and height of an item does not exceed 62 in (158 cm) each of the following items are permitted and will be counted as one item of checked-baggage:
A sleeping bag or a quilt
A backpack
Either a pair of skis with a pair of ski poles and ski boots, or, a snowboard with a pair of snowboarding boots
A golf bag including golf clubs and a pair of golf shoes
Either a duffel bag or a B4 bag
A single-seat tour or racing bicycle that is non-motor-driven, appropriately packed with the handlebars fixed parallel with the bike frame and the pedals removed
A pair of water-skis
fishing gear including no more than two rods, one fishing reel, one hand net, one pair of fishing boots and one tackle box,
sporting guns: none rifle case with no more than two rifle guns, no more than 10 lbs (5 kgs) of bullets in weight a, one shooting mat, one silencer, and one small gun-tool, or; two shotgun cases with no more than two shotguns or one pistol case with no more than five pistols, no more than 10 lbs (5 kgs) of bullets in weight, one silencer, one telescope and one small gun-tool.

CHINA AND EUROPE/CENTRAL ASIA
Free Checked Baggage Allowance in Europe

The above baggage allowances are applied to regular flights operated by Hainan Airlines (chartered flights are not included).

When passenger takes flight from Beijing/Shanghai to Brussels then connects to Africa by Brussels Airlines, maximum baggage allowance for Hainan Airlines' sector is 2 pieces with 46 kg(101pounds) (23kg each) and maximum dimensions of 158 cm (62 inches) in economy class; 2 pieces with 64 kg(141pounds) (32kg each) and maximum dimensions of 158 cm (62 inches) in business class.

Free Checked Baggage Allowance in Russia

The above baggage allowances are applied to regular flights operated by Hainan Airlines (chartered flights are not included).

The free check baggage allowance on Beijing=Krasnoyarsk flight and Beijing=Irkutsk is 30kg for economy class and 40kg for business class, the new free baggage applicable for use from 01Nov(including). Before this date, the baggage rule is 20kg for economy class, and 30kg for business class.

CHINA AND AFRICA/MIDDLE EAST

The International Students and Overseas Workers * free checked baggage allowance only applies to people traveling on tickets deemed as a student ticket which can only be purchased at a Hainan Airlines ticketing office in person. To be eligible for a student ticket, appropriate verification documentation and identification are required at the time of ticket purchase and check-in. This policy does not apply to group passengers, passengers with free tickets or passengers with tickets purchased online.

Passengers who have already purchased tickets online but wish to change their ticket to a student ticket are required to go to a Hainan Airlines ticketing office for a ticket change. Passengers are required to submit documentation verifying their status as an International Student or an overseas worker and there may be additional fees incurred when changing tickets.

CHINA AND AUSTRALIA

Note:
International Students and Overseas Workers who fly with us on our Hangzhou-Shenzhen-Sydney route are eligible for a 40kg free checked baggage allowance. The International Student and Overseas Worker * free checked baggage allowance only applies to people traveling on tickets deemed as a student ticket which can only be purchased at a Hainan Airlines ticketing office in person. To be eligible for a student ticket, appropriate verification documentation and identification are required at the time of ticket purchase and check-in. This policy does not apply to group passengers, passengers with free tickets or passengers with tickets purchased online.

Passengers who have already purchased tickets online but wish to change their ticket to a student ticket are required to go to a Hainan Airlines ticketing office for a ticket change. Passengers are required to submit documentation verifying their status as an International Student or an Overseas Worker and there may be additional fees incurred when changing tickets.

New immigrants flying with us on this route may also be eligible for the above free baggage allowance. They must have purchased a ticket at a Hainan Airlines Ticketing Office in person to receive free baggage allowance offer. To be eligible, appropriate verification documentation and identification are required at the time of ticket purchase and check-in. This policy does not apply to group passengers, passengers with free tickets or passengers with tickets purchased online. Immigrant tickets are indicated with an 'EM' on the ticket. The baggage allowance policy does not apply to passengers traveling with a group, passengers with a free ticket, nor passengers who have purchased tickets online. New Immigrants* whom have already purchased tickets online but wish to change their ticket to a New Immigrant ticket are required to go to a Hainan Airlines ticketing office for a ticket change. Passengers are required to submit documentation verifying their status as a New Immigrant and there may be additional fees incurred when changing tickets.

Free baggage allowance for the Hangzhou-Shenzhen route is the same as that for domestic flights within Mainland China.

For Passengers with connecting flights including segments operated by Hainan Airlines and with Hainan Airlines as major carrier of the entire itinerary, the overweight-baggage charge is 1.5% per kg of the highest one-way published Hainan Airlines fare in Economy Class according to the traveling direction, or 1.5% per kg of the highest one-way published IATA fare in Economy Class according to the traveling direction in case of no carrier fare.

The overweight charges can be paid in CNY, USD or local currency of departing country/region, calculated according to the prevailing exchange rate on the departure date.

Route Hangzhou=Shenzhen=Sydney Departing from Hangzhou/Shenzhen

For flights from Hangzhou/Shenzhen to Australia, the overweight-baggage charge is 1.5% per kg of the highest one-way published IATA fare in Economy Class according to the traveling direction.

The reference highest one-way published IATA fare of an Economy Class ticket:
Hangzhou-Sydney: 19,120 CNY;
Sydney-Hangzhou: 4,682 AUD;
Shenzhen-Sydney: 18,080 CNY;
Sydney-Shenzhen: 4,663 AUD.
*The overweight charges would be paid in local currency of departing country/region, calculated according to the prevailing exchange rate on the departure date.

Departing from Sydney
For flights from Sydney to Hangzhou/Shenzhen, the overweight-baggage charge is 30AUD per kg. *The overweight charges would be paid in local currency of departing country/region, calculated according to the prevailing exchange rate on the departure date.
The above policy only apply to flights from Sydney to Shenzhen, Hangzhou or other Chinese city.
For other itineraries, the overweight-baggage charge is 1.5% per kg of the highest one-way published IATA fare in Economy Class according to the traveling direction.

Overweight Baggage Charge On Route Shanghai=Urumqi=Istanbul For direct flights between Shanghai/Urumqi and Istanbul
For direct flights from Shanghai/Urumqi to Istanbul, the overweight-baggage charge is 1.5% per kg of the highest one-way published Hainan Airlines fare in Economy Class according to the traveling direction.

The reference highest one-way published fare of an Economy Class ticket:
Shanghai-Istanbul: 24160CNY;
Urumqi-Istanbul: 21550CNY;

For direct flights from Istanbul to Shanghai/Urumqi
Istanbul-Shanghai: 35TL/kg;
Istanbul-Urumqi: 25TL/kg.
*The overweight charges would be paid in local currency of departing country/region, calculated according to the prevailing exchange rate on the departure date.

For connecting flights including Shanghai=Urumqi=Istanbul segment
For Passengers with connecting flights including Shanghai=Urumqi=Istanbul segment with Hainan Airlines as major carrier of the entire itinerary, the overweight-baggage charge is 1.5% per kg of the highest one-way published Hainan Airlines fare in Economy Class according to the traveling direction, or 1.5% per kg of the highest one-way published IATA fare in Economy Class according to the traveling direction in case of no carrier fare.

The following Sports sets cannot be considered as checked baggage
Due to large sizes and complexity in handling, some sports sets cannot be put into storage areas on board or cannot be dealt with through the baggage system at the airport.

Therefore, we will not accept the following sets as normal sports equipments for consignment:
light boats,
gliding sets of a hanging-style,
canoes,
kites,
rafts,
minitype sledges
sail boards.

Hainan Airlines does not accept these articles as checked baggage. They should be transported as cargo. Please directly consult the local Hainan Airlines cargo transportation department or their agents for information.
