Windsurfing equipment is accepted on Westjet flights as checked baggage when less than 9.8 feet (3 metres) long. It will be treated as a piece of regular checked luggage, hence a whole range of fees may apply.

The standard checked baggage / extra piece fee will be charged, plus the oversize baggage fee ($100), and the overweight fee if applicable ($100 for bags weighing 23-32 kg / 50-70 lbs). In addition, a $50 CAD/USD "Handling Fee" has been introduced and will be applied to surfboards, paddleboards, kiteboards, wakeboards and wave skis, boogie/skimboards and windsurfers. Although Westjet is known to be a customer-friendly airline and many windsurfers have flown with them paying only the $50 handling fee, this will really depend on your check-in agent and whether they charge you all of the fees that their policy includes. In theory, a single windsurfing bag may cost you up to $250 ($100 Oversize, $100 Overweight, $50 handling fee), plus the standard "Checked Bag" fee for your flight depending on whether it is your 1st, 2nd or 3rd checked bag.

All boards must have the skeg/fin removed, be padded, and packed properly to prevent damage to the board, sail and other baggage.

All applicable oversized, overweight and extra piece fees apply.

Oversize and overweight fees are about $100 each, and both will be charged if applicable.

A handling fee of 50 CAD/USD will be applied to surfboards, paddleboards, kiteboards, wakeboards and wave skis, boogie/skimboards and windsurfers
