Surfboards may be accepted on Air New Zealand free of charge as part of your regular free checked baggage allowance, in place of a regular suitcase, as long as the board bag is less than 2.00 meters long, and weigh less than 23 kg / 50 lbs.

When flying a shortboard, you should be able to just fit within this 2.00m length limit. If flying with a slightly longer board such as a mid-length, you will exceed the 2.00 meter limit and an Oversize Baggage fee will apply. Please note that the maximum allowed length is 2.50 meters (about 8'), so longboards will not be accepted. [AMZ asins='B00HTA1Z6C,B00GGPK0V2,B00NIYJF6U,B0053TGSK4']

If your surfboard bag is brought as an extra item in addition to your suitcases, you will have to pay the regular Extra Bag fee, as if it were an extra suitcase.

If your surfboard bag weighs more than 23 kg / 50 lbs, Air New Zealand's standard Overweight Baggage fee will apply, up to a maximum weight of 32 kg / 70 lbs.

Note: Some size restrictions apply if flying domestically on smaller aircraft, as items larger than 180 x 80 x 120 cm will not fit, meaning that surfboards cannot fly on these routes. Please contact Air New Zealand for assistance. [AMZ asins='B00HTA1Z6C,B00GGPK0V2,B00NIYJF6U,B0053TGSK4']
