A snowboard bag is considered as one piece of regular baggage on Finnair, as long as it weighs less than 23 kg / 50 lbs, and is shorter than 220 cm.

The cost of bringing a snowboard on Finnair depends on the baggage allowance of your ticket as well as how much other baggage you're taking with you. If your ticket includes a free checked baggage allowance, your snowboard bag can be substituted for a regular suitcase. If you are bringing a snowboard in addition to your free checked baggage allowance, you will have to pay an Excess Bag fee as if you were bringing an extra suitcase. The maximum weight of one set of snowboard equipment is 23 kg and the maximum length is 220 cm. Snowboarding equipment is defined as one snowboard bag. Snowboard boots may be packed in a separate boot bag, but their weight still counts towards the total weight of your snowboard equipment, which is limited to 23 kg / 50 lbs.

If your snowboard bag weighs more than 23 kg / 50 lbs (up to a maximum of 32 kg / 70 lbs), you will be charged Finnair's Heavy Bag fee, which depends on the origin/destination of your flight.

Finnair Heavy Bag Fee 2023
Flights to/from Asia, North America and the Middle East - €80/$90
Flights within Finland and Europe - €60

You can usually take snowboard equipment without informing the airline ahead of time. However, if travelling in a group of ten or more people who will be taking skis and snowboards equipment, it is best to inform the airline ahead of time as space may be limited.

If bringing a snowboard bag in excess of your regular free checked baggage allowance, we recommend purchasing your extra bag allowance and adding your snowboard to your reservation ahead of time, as it is much cheaper to pay for it online at least 1 week before departure, rather than paying a higher fee at the airport.

Finnair Plus Platinum and Gold members are allowed to carry one set of snowboard equipment free of charge.
