United accepts non-motorized bicycles with single or double seats (including tandem) or up to two non-motorized bicycles packed in one case as checked baggage.

United Airlines has dropped its previous $150 bicycle fee, allowing bicycles to fly as a standard piece of luggage with no additional charges, paying only the standard checked baggage fee that would apply. After removing the wording in early 2023 stating that the Oversize Baggage fee will be waived for biycles, United Airlines has now again clarified that "Oversized fees are waived on properly packed bicycles." There is no additional service fee or handling fee for flying with a bike, but the standard weight limit of 50 lbs / 23 kg still applies, and you will still be charged an overweight baggage fee if your bike box weighs more than 23 kg / 50 lbs. The following are bicycle restrictions:

- Handlebars must be fixed sideways and pedals removed
- All loose items must be enclosed in plastic foam or similar protective material
- Bicycle should be transported in a sealed box
- Pack it in a sealed box using plastic foam or similar protective material inside. The box should be a hard-sided case or constructed from durable cardboard.
- Oversized fees are waived on properly packed bicycles.
- Motorized or battery-powered bicycles are not permitted.

United Airlines is not liable for damage to any checked bicycles that are not packed as described above.

If your itinerary includes a United Express flight, please contact United for information regarding aircraft cargo hold limits.

United Airlines states that "Oversized fees are waived on properly packed bicycles".

Note: Bicycles will not be accepted during an excess baggage embargo when no excess baggage is allowed.
