Musical Instruments as Carry-On with Sky Airline

A Guitar will be charged a flat fee of $15, which can be brought into the cabin if in a soft case. A guitar is allowed only if kept within a soft case, maximun weight up to 20 kilos and not larger than 110 x 45 x 20 cm. Maximun of two guitars permitted per flight.

Instruments as Checked Baggage on Sky Airline

If your musical instrument exceeds the in-cabin dimensions allowed, you will have to purchase additional luggage allowance and it will be carried in the cargo hold. This must be purchased as "Special Luggage". You can add up to 3 musical instruments per passenger. These will be transported in the cargo hold. Remember that purchasing your additional luggage allowance for your musical instruments when purchasing your ticket is cheaper than doing it at the last minute.

You can bring guitars, basses, violins and all those string instruments with the mentioned weight and dimensions, flutes, trumpets, keyboards, saxophones, drum accesories. All items must comply with mentioned weight and dimensions.

Sky Airline Overweight Fee (exceeding 23 kg / 50 lbs)

1-5 KG Overweight - $23 USD
6-10 KG Overweight - $38 USD
11-15 KG Overweight - $50 USD
+15 KG Overweight - $53 USD

Musical instruments should not exceed 230 linear centimeters and should weight less than 23 kilograms. If any item exceeds 23 kilograms, the overweight fee will be charged. 

Excess weight bags must weight less than 45 kilos (99 pounds) in the case of routes from or to Lima or within Chile. Excess weight bags must weight less than 32 kilos (70 pounds) for the routes from or to Argentina and Montevideo. All items exceeding these limits can be carried as cargo.

We recommend using special cases to protect the instruments (preferably hard-sided cases).

You will be able to carry the following musical instruments as checked items: Guitars, bass guitars, violins, string instruments that meet weight and dimensions requirements, flutes or trumpets, keyboards, saxophones, and drumming sets. All these instruments should comply with the weight and dimensions requirements described above. You can bring a different type of musical instrument provided that it complies with the weight and dimensions requirements.

Packing your musical instruments is your responsibility. We recommend using special cases to protect them. SKY will not be held liable for damages to your musical instrument during the flight arising from handling if the items were not packed appropriately ro were packed in unsuitable containers.

Please be advised that no musical instrument in soft case will be allowed to be carried in the hold of the aircraft and no instrument in hard case will be allowed to be carried in cabin.
