Flying with Musical Instruments on Copa Airlines
Depending on their size, musical instruments can be carried on board, handled as checked baggage, or as an extra seat as long as they comply with the following conditions:
- Musical instruments may be accepted and carried as carry-on luggage, provided that they meet the requirements for carry-on luggage.
- If you travel with a musical instrument as carry-on luggage, it will count towards your carry-on luggage allowance.
- As a carry-on luggage, the instrument have to fit and be stow in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of the passenger.
- A services fee does not apply for the carriage of musical instrument when such instruments are carried as carry-on luggage and meets the requirements for carry-on luggage.
- If you choose to carry the musical instrument onboard and exceeds the measures of the carry-on luggage, the instrument may occupy a seat. However, you must pay the corresponding fare for the extra seat.
- The musical instrument must be enclosed in a bag made of material that is sufficiently sturdy to withstand handling during transport.
- If the musical instruments exceeds the specified weight and size limitations established under the conditions of the current baggage allowance, applicable charges will apply for excess baggage.
- Instruments must have a conditional acceptance tag attached to them.
- If you are transporting a stringed instrument, the strings must be loosened.
